OSHA classifications for Powered Industrial Trucks—
Classifications by OSHA are generally not interchangeable:

·  Class 1- Electric Motor Rider Trucks

·  Class 2- Electric Motor Narrow Aisle trucks (Order Pickers, Turret truck and Reach Type Outrigger)

·  Class 3- Electric Motor Hand or Hand Rider Trucks (Low Lift Platforms, Low Lift Walkie Pallet, Reach Type Outrigger, High Lift Straddle, High Lift Counterbalanced and Low lift Walkie Rider Pallet)

·  Class 4- Internal Combustion Engine (With Solid Rubber Tires)

·  Class 5- Internal Combustion Engine (With Pneumatic Tires)

·  Class 6- Electric and Internal Combustion Engine (Tractor Type)

·  Class 7- Rough Terrain Trucks (Straight Mast and Extended Reach Type)

·  General characteristics of the truck

·  Applications

·  Principles of operation

·  Inspection of the truck

·  Equipment considerations

·  Personnel safety- drive and pedestrians

·  Load safety

·  Federal and manufacturer rules

·  Preventative maintenance

Testing:

·  Written and hands-on performance test

·  Walk around inspection

·  PPE

·  Operational checks

·  Driving

·  Pick and carry

·  Secure the machine

Hands-on Training:

·  Personal protective equipment (PPE)

·  Pre-operation inspection

·  Control familiarization

·  Load handling

·  Traveling with the load

·  Placing the load

·  Fueling the truck

·  Participants will, with coaching, practice items learned in class.
